The Church of SubGenius

I just came across a cultural product for which I have often seen references but never knew about.

Thank "Bob" for Wikipedia

Often when I tell people about scientology they are incredulous, saying that it is just too impossible and absurd. Often these very same people are christians, and then I just can't help thinking "Jeez man, you believe that the only son of an emotional God was killed by crucifixition, promised his disciples he would be back in the their lifetime, and never pitched up. Yes, those scientologists, they are nuts...

I work for this guy who prides himself in the fact that his decision for Christ is an intellectual one, and not the result of some “leap of faith”. He looked into “all” religions, did his homework, had a good long hard think, and opted for the same faith as his staunchly religious parents. Only faith is now a misnomer, since he expresses deep contempt for people who “just believe”. He asks me questions like, “then tell me this, who rolled away the huge rock guarding Jesus’ tomb without the two guards noticing anything?” Of course I want to ask him how we know any of this even happened, not to mention the exact details surrounding it, but I stop myself from probing too deeply, in fear that I might get carried away and deprive myself of a perfectly nice job.

This guy is highly intelligent, has about five degrees (some analytical in nature), which renders the lack of relevant scepticism even more surprising.
